Storybird

Students have started writing or actually finishing a story I started. We'll share tomorrow. I have noticed that students are just describing pictures that I have chosen to be a part of the story. I see a need for them to use the pictures to help tell a story, not be the story. This is going to be a challenge. Because I am not a creative writer, it's a challenge for me to model this.

Google Doc Success

My PLC (Professional Learning Community) has been using Google Docs to record minutes and to store shared assessment tools this year.  This has been very helpful.  The only trick has been to check the print preview feature before printing the part of the document you wish to have in hard copy.  We choose to make one long document for the entire year-long project.  We've found it important to double check the number of the page you wish to print (and also the alignment of any page breaks) so…

SPED shared documents

We touched on shared document tools in MILI.  As a special ed teacher I use a shared document tool called iplan all the time.  I've been told that this tool is based on a data type software similar to Excel and that is why there is a little box for every small entry into the due process documents we create.  I've also been told that this is why it is so cumbersome to use when you are used to using wordprocessing tools.  The good part is that various IEP team members can add information from…

I played my first computer game!

After reading about a game called "A Nation In Motion", created by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, I decided to try it in order to see if it could be a learning tool for my students.  This game takes you along a path toward reaching the "I Can Club" where survivors of a variety of orthopedic crises meet.  My students would need help understanding the words describing all the accidents and medical repairs that the surgeons provide.  There is no skill involved in "playing" this…

Reflection

The Mili Junior class has been a great experience!  I've learned a lot about new technology tools (well, new for me) such as Screencast-O-Matic, Common Craft, RSS Feeds, and more.  I've also learned about unfamiliar features from familiar tools such as ELM, Google.  I will definitely promote this class at my schools for the 2012-2013 school year.  I'm also recommending this program to my "other school district" West Saint Paul Schools.  Thanks everyone for sharing your great ideas!
